This segment features a discussion with a member of the VALID Co Design team, Celeste Rattray-Wood, as she shares tales from her upbringing and school life as someone with Autism or Intellectual Disability and as she moves into a career as an advocate and speaker with the program VALID-8.
VALID is an organisation based in Melbourne working with Cognitively Disabled people, giving Advocacy services, Self-Advocacy training and Building the Community around this population.
The latest updates with concussion, which includes sport. Covers the latest movement in the Australian approach to concussion, especially in the area of sport. With increased awareness and study into the effects of Concussion, additional conservative steps and treatment have been recommended.
New technology being developed for the brain to interface with computers. Receiving a Neural Link implant, Nolan Arbor, who is paralysed due to MS, spoke with Elon Musk, who brought the technology to be, and expressed great positivity of the benefits. Nolan was able to operate software via his thoughts but hopes for greater usage in future.

In Australia, there are several key avenues where people with a disability can get help and support. In a spoken piece we look into Disability Support in Australia and the services that help the almost 22% of the population living with a disability. The NDIS, Centrelink and state based governmental and local community assist quality of life.
Sharon Granek from Safe Steps and Assoc Prof Eve Valera of Massachusetts Hospital both work with the effects of Intimate Partner Violence and speak about the prevalence of brain injury sustained by survivors of this. Also spoken about are the expectations of women in marriage looking through a cultural lens.

 The Global Arts and Health Alliance is an initiative collaboratively being worked upon by all three universities in South Australia – Flinders, UniSA and Adelaide. We hear from the Senior Research Support Officer, Narmon Tulsi, as he describes the intentions and motivations of the initiative ‘putting the Care back into Health Care’ or ‘Art for Health’s Sake’. Daish Malani is the motivation behind the company Add-Life (or +Life). This Augmented/Virtual Reality program aims to increase physical and cognitive function following Stroke or Brain Trauma. Collaborating with specialists, his programs are constantly evolving to put the ‘fun’ back into ‘function’.
Elle Baker is the NDIS Business Development Officer for the Personal Alarm Service MEPacs. She is passionate about theproduct that gives the user a sense of ease knowing their calls for help will be dealt with in a timely and private manner. Based at Frankston Hospital in Melbourne, she used her inclusion in the conference to educate many as to the independence the alarm enables.
